Bigger than Life is a large-scale theatre project by De Betovering, Rabarber Theatre School, and Cat Smits Company, in which children collaborate to create a fully-fledged performance. Under the artistic direction of Rabarber Theatre School, 18 performers aged 9 to 14 (a combination of Rabarber performers and children from the city) will create a performance about fear and resilience.
Everyone gets scared sometimes. But what if that irritating, biting feeling took over your entire world, right down to the A for Fear? What would you do? Would you face it like a brave knight, or would you rather hide in a safe corner? In Bigger than Life, children combat their fears with imagination, courage, and magic. A poetic, visual performance with life-size puppets, impressive objects, and young performers aged 8 to 14. In a unique setting with young, talented performers aged 8 to 14 and life-size objects and puppets on stage, the viewer is transported to a new world where feelings are given a face. Embark on an unforgettable journey together, filled with powerful images, thrilling adventures, and disarming moments.
This unique experience is especially impactful because the performance was co-created with young actors, led by Anna Boelens of Rabarber Theatre School and Cat Smits Company. Children perform for children, contributing to an unforgettable theatrical experience.
This is a coproduction of Rabarber Theatre School, Cat Smits Company, and Festival De Betovering. The performance was made possible thanks to contributions from Cultuurschakel and the Cultuurfonds, and also from the Jan and Lenie van Winden-Heldermand Fund.
Upon request, a Rabarber teaching artist will come to the school for an art lesson in the classroom, and the performance visit can be expanded upon to include theater in the classroom.
